Yoda's Story

YodaYoda has been adopted!

Yoda was found on Saturday, January 29, 2005, by a homeowner snowshoeing in his backyard in Randolph. Yoda was huddled underneath a trampoline covered in snow from the recent blizzard. Both the Randolph Police and Randolph Animal Control Officer were called, and Yoda was rushed to the Randolph Animal Hospital for emergency care. He was so cold and hypothermic that we could not obtain a body temperature. Doctors believed that Yoda was hit by a car several days earlier, causing his fractured pelvis and nerve damage to his left rear leg. He was severely malnourished when he was brought in, weighing only 21 pounds – doctors believed his normal weight should have been approximately 45 pounds. Yoda needed surgery to repair his fractured pelvis. The surgery was done at Randolph Animal Hospital a few weeks later, after he gained some weight and strength.

Yoda was not able to be adopted until he was healthy and had recovered from surgery.

The Dick Bustard Memorial Fund was established two years ago, in memory of the long-time Animal Control Officer in Randolph. Thanks to this fund, we are able to perform surgery and other life-saving procedures to stray animals like Yoda, and eventually find them new homes through our adoption process.

We will continue to provide updates on Yoda's case – updates will be posted below so please feel free to visit our website in the future!

Yoda was adopted to a great home. He has a loving family now with another Shiba Inu. Everything has gone well so far and we are hopeful that he will continue to do well in his new home. His new owners will continue to socialize him to not be so fearful of new situations, and they will take him to training as well. We are so pleased.

Yoda with YoshiYoda has been in for his 8 week post-surgical recheck appointment. He's doing great. His fur is growing back over his leg. He's also adapting well to his new home. He crossed his street on his own the other day, which was a big step because of his fear of cars. We're very happy with his recovery and glad he's found such a good home.
